It’s no secret, an unorganized and messy room or house can stress you out. It is said that one’s home and the state it is in can be a reflection of the rest of their life. I.e a messy home can reflect a life that is a little stressed out, maybe overwhelmed or over scheduled and a clean house…you get the point. But what are the actual benefits to your health that can come from having a clean and tidy home, other than the obvious relief of a nice looking and smelling home. Here are 3 reasons you should tidy up this weekend and stop living in your own filth.

1. Reduce Allergy Symptoms

Allergic rhinitis is your body’s reaction to airborne allergens. Did you know?

· Roughly 30% of Adults and 40 % of children suffer from allergies in North America

· People with allergies to dust and dust mites are 3 times more likely to develop asthma

· Dust mites account for 60% of ALL respiratory allergies

· 60-80% of asthmatic children are sensitive to household dust mite

Interesting fact aren’t they? When you don’t maintain a clean home, dust and other allergens build up in the air and can make for some uncomfortable breathing. Even if you don’t specifically notice it, you will absolutely notice the difference a clean house makes. You breathe clearer, get sick less and the air smells fresher. Stay on top of these little dusty critters people!

2. Reduce Your Stress Level

Shifting gears from a physical benefit to a more psychological one, having a clutter free home will most certainly make you feel better. Not only will the result of a clean home make your life feel lighter, but the process of cleaning can actually help reduce stress and anxiety. Picture your home as a representation of your life, and the clutter and dirt inside represent the stress and thoughts that weigh your mind down. By physically cleaning, you are also metaphorically ridding your life of unwanted dirt, both figuratively and literally. Also, it is a form of exercise. You are moving around, making decisions and making progress and we all know these things help with your mental well-being. Get off the couch and get moving people, spring is almost here!

3. Getting Organized

It can be quite frustrating when you go to get something that you know you own, but for the life of you are unable to find the thing! Keeping your home neat and tidy will almost certainly help you avoid this problem. Not only will everything be organized and have a home within your home, but because you are consistently cleaning things, you will also consistently see everything in the house and be able to keep an updated inventory. Ever need something that you know without a doubt that you own, can’t find it even though you remember seeing it not long ago, go out and buy a new one of these only to find the original one a week later? Yeah, that sucks. Get your life organized starting with your house.
